When Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Charlottesville, Virginia chose to outsource their payroll with us, we were elated to partner with them. Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry exists solely to get food to the people who can’t afford to buy it themselves. In Charlottesville and the surrounding counties, “25% of the population have experienced food insecurity at some point in their lifetime”, said Jane Colony Mills, the Executive Director of Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry is a private nonprofit organization that relies on the Albemarle County community to donate funds and food throughout the year. Loaves and Fishes goes to nine different grocery stores throughout the week to pick up food that is determined to be unsellable. Unsellable food is food that is close to its ‘sell by’ date, excess product, and brands that are no longer being carried by the store. Employee’s then spend a lot of time inspecting donations to ensure that it is food that is consumable. Donated funds go toward purchasing food at a discounted rate from large stores like Costco and Walmart. “We’ve been able to rely on MoneyWise to make sure that everybody is being compensated for the valuable work that they’re providing”, said Jane Colony Mills.

As a visionary of the bigger picture, we are passionate about helping businesses like Loaves and Fishes reduce the amount of time and energy it takes to understand and manage payroll and tax compliance laws. When we first began working with Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at the beginning of 2019, they had three part-time and three full-time employees.
